Adding an Artistic Flare to your home decor.
You know those fabulous homes that you enter, and upon walking through the first few feet, you have said, “ooohhhh, ahhhhh” at least ten times. Well, I am about to make your home have that wow-factor interior! How can this be done? By adding a few simple pieces of art, of course!
First, you need to do a walk-through of your home, and decide which rooms need a little spice! Don’t go too big or you may get overwhelmed. So decide on one or two rooms that you can tackle. Then, begin looking at your decor that is already in those rooms. What three colors do you see most? Do you like those colors? If your rooms have little to no color, do you want to add a bright piece of art to brighten it up? These are the questions that you need to think of while deciding what your room needs. I will take you on my journey of adding pieces of art to accentuate my room decor. But first, I have one thing to admit. I LOVE color! There, I have said it. I just do. So, with that, I knew that I needed bold bright artwork and calmer items in the room to balance.
I began with my bedroom. Pairing a vintage rug from my favorite company Bellacor, white side tables from Wayfair, and simple greenery purchased from Walmart, I created a tranquil room. Then came the COLOR! I loved the wild look of acrylic-pour art. So, I tied the colors of my rug into the three hues in my painting. I chose to go with a larger-than-life-size canvas, just because. Sometimes, you can get caught up in the rules of decorating or what not to do, that you forget to just do what you love. And, I love gigantic art! Therefore, proudly hanging on my wall is a 30x40 canvas complete with gold flakes!
My second area that needed a splash of color was my foyer. Before it was just a table with random vases. However, I wanted to transform this small space into an area that made a statement. So, I love the simple look of greenery and wood, but needed something a little more. I decided to create a palette-knife painting of an old barn and incorporate the green colors of the painting with the greenery. To keep it tame, a white wooden frame surrounded the picture. Finished! My foyer now has additional color and yes, I smile every time I pass it!
Now, you are probably thinking, “Oh no, I have to somehow become an artist to add art to my house.” Nope. Not at all, actually! You just need to simply know where to begin. Here are a few suggestions: commission a local artist, shop etsy prints, or use good ole fashioned artwork you’ve created yourself (Side note: kid’s artwork is always endearing and cheerful when framed on your walls!). Just decide on a few pieces of art that you want to use and go for it!
Your style is your own. It’s unique. So, the best part about adding art is that it can be exactly what you want. For example, my sister who is an incredible interior designer, adores art but prefers more of a subdued style. She decided to incorporate a charcoal drawing into her living room shelves. Simple. But powerful! Since, her colors are all neutral tones, the drawing worked so well and balanced the look of her living room. You can even use a flower from your yard as inspiration, and draw the outline. Frame it. I love the wooden frames from Michaels. Can I let you in on a secret? A drawing is just a drawing until is is framed. Once, it achieves framed-status, no matter what it may be, it becomes ART. So, dare to draw or paint and create something unusual!
