Artsy Local Shopping: What North Georgia has to offer.
Do I love shopping? YES!!!! Do you love shopping? Hopefully, yes, but even if you don’t, I may change your mind with these charming shops in our local area. First, lets discuss what makes a shop have that special factor that causes you to LOVE it. Personally, I think a huge aspect of a shop’s appeal is the owner. No matter what items they sell, if that store has a helpful, cheerful, and kind owner, you can guarantee I’ll buy something! Another, is the vibe. Perhaps, this is the most important. I must admit, possibly due to my love of color and overall need for art, I am drawn to local shops with an eclectic, funky vibe! Therefore, I am a bit biased, but still think you will love these stores as much as I do. Let’s explore together!
Let’s begin with the first place to visit. Don’t worry, this one is easy to find and right on the town square in Cleveland, Georgia! Drum roll….Wingostarr Jewelry Studio. From the moment you open the door, you are greeted by the cool owners, Mallory and Jason, with happy smiles! They have their shop arranged Boho style with rich colorful patterns and greenery. On every surface are beautiful pieces of jewelry that they have hand-designed. If you are more of a rock collector, they offer a vast array of crystals and rare gems. The sweet owner, Mallory, even let me design my very own necklace. Of course, my favorite purchase I made overall was my new bell-bottom printed pants that felt like pajamas! See below. All in all, amazing place for gifts or fun jewelry!
On to the next local spot. I love this place because it has a great “feel” and amazing espresso! What is it? I just know you are dying to find out. It’s the Jumpin Goat Coffee Tasting Room. Perched on top of a mountain, they have a killer view of Mt. Yonah and great outside seating. Chill music plays while you order lattes and munch on their own special concoction of sugar/roasted pecans called “Goat Nuts.” Trust me, the name doesn’t do them justice. They are incredible! Again, I may favor this location a little. Since I have taught plein air art classes here, I can say without a doubt, that it is a place to inspire creativity! Not to mention, they have a white, stuffed goat outside! What’s more artsy than that?!
Now for my last adorable shop to visit and see is Nora Mill. Located on the picturesque Chatahoochee River in Helen, Georgia, this store specializes in hand-made and all-natural products. You will love the homemade grits samples being served, the array of nostalgic candy options, and my all-time favorite… their hilarious hand-towel collection! This is my go-to place for Mother-in-law and last minute guest gifts! The owner is bubbly, hilarious, and down-to-earth; so naturally, I just love her! It has an old-timey atmosphere that combines new products with a general-store vibe. If you haven’t checked it out yet, they’re open all week so swing by!
